Black Domina Strains

Black Domina seeds are a heavy indica strain that came out of Sensi Seeds back in the nineties. It's a four-way mix of Northern Lights, Ortega, Hash Plant and Afghani, which means it brings together some of the most famous indica lines in one package.

The buds come out dense and sticky, with a spicy, peppery smell that's hard to miss.

THC sits somewhere between 18 and 24 per cent, and the split is about 95 per cent indica to 5 per cent sativa, so it's proper old-school indica through and through.

Where black domina comes from

Sensi Seeds put this one together in the nineties by crossing four legendary indica parents. Northern Lights brings the punch and the productivity, while the Afghani side adds toughness that works in all sorts of climates.

Ortega speeds things up when it comes to flowering, and Hash Plant is the reason these buds end up so resinous.

The name's a nod to the dark purple and almost black shades that can show up on the plant, plus the fact it's such a powerhouse in the indica world.

It's picked up awards over the years, including a first-place trophy at the Valencia THC Cup in 2011, and some people call it Dom Weed for short.

What it smells and tastes like

The smell on Black Domina is thick and layered. There’s earthy hash and spicy pepper right off the bat, then herbal, pine and citrus notes come through underneath.

Some versions throw out a bit of skunk as well, and people often describe the whole thing as a spicy hash bomb with woody edges.

The taste starts sweet and fruity, think grape and berry, then shifts into a spicy kick with hints of coffee, nuts and more of that hash flavour.

The main terpenes doing the work here are myrcene, which makes up about 40 to 55 per cent and gives it that heavy feel, caryophyllene at 15 to 25 per cent for the spice, and linalool at 5 to 12 per cent, which adds a touch of lavender.

There's also a bit of sabinene and pinene in the mix, rounding out the character.

Seed options and what the plants look like

Most Black Domina seeds you'll find are feminised, which means they'll only produce female plants. Regular seeds are out there too.

It's a photoperiod strain, so it flowers in about 50 to 63 days indoors, roughly seven to eight weeks, and wraps up outdoors by late September, around 61 days.

The buds come out chunky and tight, covered in milky-white resin, with deep olive or purple tones and bright orange hairs.

The plants stay short and bushy. There's also an autoflowering version called Auto Black Domina, which is about 70 per cent indica, 10 per cent sativa and 20 per cent ruderalis.

It keeps the strength but finishes faster, taking around 90 days from start to finish.

Who’s creating it and what else is out there

Black Domina's been around since 1996 and it's still going strong. Sensi Seeds is the original breeder, but a few others have put out their own takes on it.

Sagarmatha Seeds has Black Domina Auto, which crosses it with Lowryder #2, and Dr Trichome does an Auto Black Domina as well.

Happy Roots offers a version in regular seeds only, and some of those are called Black Mistress. There are also hybrid crosses like Black Domina 98, which mixes it with Pre-98 Bubba Kush, and Black Domina Scotts OG, which brings in Scotts OG.

Each one tweaks the terpene mix and the way the plants behave, but they all keep that classic Black Domina backbone.

Breeders love working with it because the genetics are solid and consistent, and it's still known for top-tier resin and that pure indica character.
