Bubblegum Strains

Bubblegum cannabis seed strains are indica-leaning hybrids famous for smelling and tasting exactly like old-school chewing gum.

Born in Indiana back in the 1980s, the genetics hopped to New England and then landed in the Netherlands, where breeders locked them down and polished them up.

The name's spot-on, these plants really do smell like the pink stuff you'd unwrap as a kid, fruity and floral all at once.

Since 1994, Bubblegum's racked up trophy after trophy at cannabis competitions, making it a proper legend among collectors.

How bubblegum came to be

Bubblegum kicked off in Indiana in the '80s, where someone first put the pieces together. The strain then moved east to New England before crossing the Atlantic to the Netherlands in 1993.

An Indiana breeder handed three different Bubblegum females to three Dutch breeders, Adam at T.H. Seeds, Simon at Serious Seeds, and Tony at Sagarmatha Seeds.

Each one worked on their own version, so you ended up with different takes on the same sweet idea. Simon spent five generations fine-tuning his line, and it's still the only pure inbred strain Serious Seeds sells. T.H. Seeds went for a heavier indica feel, while Simon's leans more sativa.

You'll also see it called Bubba Gum or Indiana Bubblegum, same family, different names.

What it smells and tastes like

Bubblegum's scent is like opening a fresh pack of Bazooka Joe. There’s waves of strawberry, berry, and tropical fruit, mixed with flowery notes and a whiff of spearmint, basil, and thyme. Some plants throw in a hint of grapefruit or pepper too.

The flavour's just as sweet, smooth and fruity with cherry and berry up front, then a bit of earthiness and sometimes a touch of spice or bitterness at the end.

The terpenes doing the heavy lifting here are myrcene, beta-caryophyllene, and limonene, with smaller splashes of linalool and alpha pinene.

Together, they build that candy-shop vibe and bring a mix of calm and tingly feelings. There are also compounds called cannflavins A, B, and C that dial up the flavour even more.

Strength, versions, and which breeder to choose

Most Bubblegum plants sit between 13% and 25% THC, with the sweet spot around 15–20%. Some versions push higher. CBD's usually tiny, often under 1%, and there’s trace amounts of CBN, CBDV, and CBG.

Seeds are easy to come by from well-known breeders like Serious Seeds, T.H. Seeds and 00 Seeds Bank. You can grab feminised photoperiod seeds or autoflowering ones, in packs from a single seed up to fifty.

Awards and why it's still a big deal

Bubblegum's won more than 13 major cannabis awards since the mid-'90s. It grabbed 2nd place twice at the High Times Cannabis Cup in 1995, took home wins in '94, '95, and '99, and snagged 1st Prize Outdoor at the Spannabis Champions Cup in both 2005 and 2006. It came second at Spannabis again in 2007.

All those trophies cemented Bubblegum as a classic, reliable, high-quality, and loved by loads of people. The nostalgic flavour and solid genetics have built a loyal fanbase among breeders and collectors, and you'll still see it talked about all over online forums.

Bubblegum's stuck around because it nails the mix of unforgettable taste, stable breeding, and a proper place in cannabis history.
