Where G13 haze comes from

The story behind G13 Haze starts with two parent plants that both have a bit of legend attached. G13 itself has been the subject of wild rumours for decades, some say it came out of a secret U.S. government lab back in the seventies, though nobody's ever proved that.

What is known is that G13 became famous for making loads of resin and flowering quickly. Barney's Farm crossed G13 with Skunk #1 first, then brought Hawaiian Sativa into the mix to create what we now call G13 Haze.

Over at Mr Nice Seedbank, Nevil and Shantibaba made their own version using a 50/50 split of G13 (which leans Afghan) and Haze.

Because G13 only existed as a female clone, breeders had to work the line a bit to make stable seeds. The end result is a sativa-heavy hybrid.

The smell and taste

G13 Haze has a really layered scent. Pine comes through first, backed up by sweet citrus and a touch of sandalwood. People also catch fruity notes and a herbal edge that they say reminds them of fresh-cut grass.

There's a bit of spice in there too, pepper and sage round things out without taking over. It's rich but not overpowering, and it's got a refreshing quality that makes it stand out.

When it comes to flavour, there’s smooth citrus and pine again, with lemongrass and sweet tropical fruit notes that feel a bit like a fruit cocktail. Sage and a gentle spiciness tie it all together, and the taste stays pretty close to the smell.

The terpenes doing the work here include myrcene for earthy, musky tones, caryophyllene for that peppery kick, and terpinolene bringing floral and citrus hints.

Valencene adds a bit of tangerine and lemon, and carene plus phellandrene fill in the gaps. It's a complex character that's won over plenty of fans.

Strength and cannabinoid levels

THC levels usually land somewhere between 18% and 29%, with most batches sitting around 19% to 24%. Lab tests have recorded figures like 19.1%, 20%, 21%, and up to 24%, so it's consistently strong. CBD stays low, mostly between 0.1% and 1%, with common readings around 0.25%, 0.7%, or 0.91%.

Some samples also show a tiny bit of CBN, around 1%. These numbers reflect the sativa-heavy breeding and the focus on high THC.

Seeds and breeders

You can find G13 Haze seeds from a couple of well-known breeders. Barney's Farm offers both regular and feminised versions, with the feminised seeds bred to produce female plants reliably.

Mr Nice Seedbank sticks to regular inbred line seeds and doesn't do feminised versions.

Awards and reputation

G13 Haze has racked up some impressive wins over the years. It took first place at the High Times Cannabis Cup twice in a row, 2006 and 2007, and it's also been recognised as a Sativa Cup winner.

Users rate it highly too, with an average score of 8.26 out of 10. It's a regular fixture in Amsterdam coffeeshops and has become a bit of a classic.

The strain shows what happens when you take old-school genetics like G13 and the original Haze and give them a modern twist. It's a reminder that sometimes the best new strains come from revisiting the legends.
