Where nevilles haze comes from

This strain's got a proper pedigree that goes back to the eighties. Neville Schoenmakers got hold of two special Haze plants, called Haze A and Haze C, straight from the original Haze brothers in the States.

He crossed Haze A with Northern Lights #5, then took that mix and bred it with Haze C to land on the final version. What he ended up with was a way to keep all those wild equatorial Haze genes, Thai, South Indian, Mexican, and Colombian Highland stuff, but make them work in chillier European weather by adding a bit of Northern Lights into the recipe.

The result's a plant that's about ninety to ninety-five per cent sativa, and it's one of the closest things today to the original landrace Haze.

Breeders like Mr Nice Seedbank, Green House Seeds, and Spliff Seeds have kept these genetics going for years, each tweaking things slightly and offering different versions.

Nevilles Haze has spawned more than seventy direct offspring strains, so it's fair to say it's become a cornerstone of modern sativa breeding.

What it smells and tastes like

Nevilles Haze has a really distinctive scent that stands out a mile. Pine cone, flowery notes, and this incense-like spice vibe, all mixed with strong metallic and woody smells.

Some versions smell sweet, earthy, and flowery, like you're walking through a meadow, whilst others lean more towards old-school hashy aromas with a hint of skunk or diesel lurking underneath. There’s also sweet-tart, damp undertones beneath all that spice up top.

Taste-wise, it's a proper mash-up: ripe juicy peaches, sweet plums, and zingy lemon, all rounded off with an earthy, spicy, herbal-tea finish that hangs around in the mouth for ages.

It's a full sativa flavour that fans of authentic Haze really go for. The mix of spicy, metallic, floral, and woody smells creates that incense-like aroma that sticks around for a long time.

Some people also pick up tropical and orange notes, which just adds more layers to the whole experience.

What you can get

Nevilles Haze seeds come in regular and feminised formats. Mr Nice Seedbank does the regular ones, whilst Green House Seeds and Spliff Seeds offer feminised versions in different pack sizes.

Lab tests usually show THC sitting around 21 to 22.5 %, with a tiny bit of CBD, somewhere between 0.5% and 1%, and CBN around 0.2%.

One version tested at 15% THC with about 1% CBD, so there's a bit of variety depending on which seeds you pick up.

These plants grow tall and lanky like proper sativas do, and they take their time, usually fourteen to sixteen weeks to finish flowering indoors, though some quicker versions wrap up in eight to ten weeks.

Nevilles Haze keeps stretching during early flowering and can hit fourteen feet outdoors, with branches that spread long and wide. The buds are thin but tight, covered in resin, and there are long calyxes all over the plant.

Light gets through the sparse leaves easily, resulting in sticky buds from top to bottom.

Awards and influence

Nevilles Haze has picked up some serious silverware over the years. It took first place in the Seeds Company category at the 1998 High Times Cannabis Cup, grabbed second in the Sativa category at the 2008 Cannabis Tipo Forte Expo, and came second at the 2006 Highlife Cup in the Bio-Coffeeshops Haze category.

Those wins show just how well-regarded this strain is amongst sativa lovers.

But the real story's in how much it's influenced everything that came after. Nevilles Haze pops up in loads of modern crosses and remains a favourite for anyone chasing authentic, old-school genetics.

Its nearly pure Haze background and unique flavour have made it a benchmark for quality sativa breeding.

Some places sell it under different names, like A5 or Super A5 in Florida, which just goes to show it's still knocking about in both underground circles and legal markets.
