Super Lemon Haze Strains Cannabis Seeds

Where it comes from

Super Lemon Haze gets its genes from two well-known parents: Lemon Skunk and Super Silver Haze. Lemon Skunk brings the bright colour and balanced Skunk family traits, while Super Silver Haze adds in a bit of Northern Lights, classic Haze, and Skunk #1.

You'll sometimes see it described as a three-way mix involving Lemon Haze, Lemon Skunk #1, and Northern Lights #5, but most people agree it's Lemon Skunk crossed with Super Silver Haze. 

That Super Silver Haze parent is a legend in its own right, it won the High Times Cannabis Cup three years running in the late nineties before passing on its winning traits.

The roots go all the way back to original Nevil's Haze plants kept alive by Amsterdam seed banks and West Coast growers for more than two decades.

Green House Seed Co. put Super Lemon Haze together, with breeders Arjan Roskam and the late Franco Loja fine-tuning the citrus-heavy character.

What they ended up with is a sativa-dominant hybrid that mixes the zingy lemon kick of Lemon Skunk with the heady, resin-rich qualities of Super Silver Haze. 

These days you'll find loads of versions from breeders around the world, which just shows how popular it's become. Green House also offers feminised seeds, an autoflowering version made by crossing in some ruderalis, and even a high-CBD variant bred with a CBD-rich male.

What it smells and tastes like

The smell hits straight away, lemon zest front and centre, backed up by sweet skunk, a hint of pine, earthy spice, and just a touch of diesel. It's way stronger than is expected.

Funny thing is, the main terpenes aren't actually limonene, they're terpinolene, beta-caryophyllene, and beta-phellandrene. 

Terpinolene adds those herbal, woody, citrus notes you get in tea tree oil, beta-caryophyllene brings the spicy, peppery edge, and beta-phellandrene throws in a surprising mix of pepper, mint, and citrus.

That's why the aroma is more layered than just plain lemon. There's also ocimene, humulene, myrcene, and pinene in the mix, rounding everything out.

The taste is tangy and sweet, like lemon sweets with a herbal twist and a surprisingly earthy finish. 

A lot of people say it's more like those artificial lemon candies, think Lemon Heads, than actual fresh lemon, and the flavour often packs more punch than the smell. 

On the tongue it balances sweet citrus and skunky spice with a smooth herbal aftertaste that's got a bit of pepper in there. Really good examples can hit over 3.5% terpenes by weight, which is way above the usual 1–2% you see in most cannabis. 

That high terpene count is a big part of why Super Lemon Haze has such a strong reputation. Some labs even need fancy equipment to pick up trace compounds like beta-phellandrene, and new research suggests there are tiny amounts of sulphur-based compounds called tropicannasulfurs that might be key to that classic citrus punch.

What the buds look like and what's inside

Super Lemon Haze flowers are bright green with a thick coat of trichomes, vivid orange hairs, and long, sticky colas.

The buds have a speckled green-brown look and they're absolutely covered in clear, glistening trichomes that make them look like they've been rolled in sugar.

Some plants show off pink, purple, and green shades, which makes them even more eye-catching. 

The buds are dense but not too heavy, and they're seriously sticky with resin.

THC levels sit somewhere between 15% and 25%, with most batches landing in the high teens to mid-twenties.

Lab tests show Super Lemon Haze at around 19% THC, 21.7% THCA, and 0.3% THCV, with CBD under 1% and CBN between 1% and 2%. 

That higher CBN comes from the Super Silver Haze side of the family. The best examples can reach 25% THC.

Terpene levels vary quite a bit depending on which version you're looking at, one test showed limonene at 7.1 mg/g, beta-caryophyllene at 2.24 mg/g, and alpha-humulene at 1.12 mg/g, with linalool, beta-myrcene, alpha-pinene, and terpinolene each at 0.13 mg/g.

Awards and where you'll find it

Winning the High Times Cannabis Cup two years in a row in 2008 and 2009 really put Super Lemon Haze on the map.

It also took first place at ExpoGrow-Irún in 2012 and 2013, won the IC420 Growers Cup in 2010, and grabbed first in the High Times Cannabis Cup Sativa category in Massachusetts in 2021.

High Times even ranked it 13th in their "25 Greatest Strains of All Time" list back in 2018, which says a lot about how well it's held up over the years.

All those wins helped build a solid fanbase and turned it into a modern classic.

Since it took off in the late 2000s, Super Lemon Haze has stayed on dispensary shelves across legal markets, especially in California, Washington, and British Columbia.

It's one of the most popular sativa-leaning hybrids out there, and people keep coming back to it. 

The awards, the bold aroma, and the strong family tree have kept collectors loyal for more than a decade. Sativa fans often pick it up as an alternative to classic OG Haze types, and it's a common suggestion when strains like Lemon Skunk aren't around.
