Super Silver Haze is a sativa-leaning hybrid that brings together Skunk, Northern Lights and Haze into one seriously famous strain.
It usually runs about 70 per cent sativa and 30 per cent indica, and it smells of citrus, pine and earthy skunk. THC sits somewhere between 18 and 23 per cent most of the time.
Neville Schoenmaker and Shantibaba bred it back in the nineties at Green House Seeds, and it won the High Times Cannabis Cup three years on the trot, 1997, 1998 and 1999, which pretty much made it a legend.

Super Silver Haze popped up in Amsterdam in the mid-nineties when Neville Schoenmaker and Shantibaba crossed three big-name parents: Skunk #1, Northern Lights #5 and Haze.
The Haze side brings that uplifting, clear-headed vibe and a spicy citrus kick. Northern Lights #5 chips in with solid bud structure and deep, earthy pine. Skunk #1 adds heaps of resin and a bit of punch.
Put them all together and these seeds produce plants that lean sativa but still carry enough indica to keep things compact and productive.
After Shantibaba moved on from Green House, he took the original stock to Mr. Nice Seeds, so both outfits now sell their own versions.
Collectors still argue about which one's closer to the original award-winner, but both lines trace back to that same famous cut.
What it smells and tastes like
Open a jar of Super Silver Haze and the first thing that hits is bright, sweet citrus, think lemon and lime, sitting on top of pine and earthy skunk.
There's a pungent, herbal edge to it, sometimes a whiff of diesel and spice in the background. The flavour follows the same path: sweet citrus and fresh pine roll in first, then there’s earthy moss, a touch of menthol and a subtle skunky finish.
Some batches lean more fruity-skunk, others go woody-haze, depending on which traits come through.
The smell and taste come down to a handful of key compounds. Myrcene gives that earthy, musky clove note. Limonene brings the bright citrus zing. Alpha-pinene adds the fresh pine.
There’s also smaller amounts of caryophyllene for a peppery kick, terpinolene for a citrus-floral twist and linalool for a herbal touch.
Lab tests often show myrcene around 3.6 milligrams per gram, limonene at 1.5 and linalool at 1.4, so the character shifts from sweet and herbal to spicy and resinous as the flower matures.

Super Silver Haze swept the High Times Cannabis Cup three years running, 1997, 1998 and 1999, and also grabbed first place in the hydro category in '97.
That hat-trick turned it into one of the most celebrated strains of the late nineties and pushed it onto wish-lists all over the world. Even now, decades later, it's still a favourite among collectors and connoisseurs.
Its genes have fed into loads of modern hybrids, including Super Lemon Haze, which crossed Lemon Skunk with Super Silver Haze and went on to win the Cannabis Cup in 2008 and 2009. That kind of influence keeps Super Silver Haze relevant and in demand.

Super Silver Haze seeds come in feminised form from Green House Seeds, Mr. Nice Seeds and a few other breeders. Feminised seeds are tweaked so they produce female plants about 99 per cent of the time.
