Green Crack Strains

Green Crack is a sativa-leaning hybrid that's built up a proper fan club over the years, thanks to its zingy citrus smell and punchy character.

It came about when someone crossed Skunk #1 with an unknown indica, possibly an Afghani landrace, and the result was a strain that mixes lively sativa energy with a solid build and sticky, chunky buds.

Back in the day, folks called it Cush or Green Cush, but the name changed after Snoop Dogg tried it and made a comment about how strong it was, and that's how it became the Green Crack we know today.

Where green crack comes from

Green Crack first popped up in Athens, Georgia, back in the seventies, and a breeder named Cecil C. usually gets the credit for putting it together.

He took Skunk #1, a classic mix of Afghani, Acapulco Gold, and Colombian Gold, and crossed it with an indica that nobody's quite sure about, though plenty reckon it was an Afghani landrace.

That combo gave Green Crack its sativa-forward vibe while keeping plants at a reasonable size and producing tight, resin-coated buds. The name's had a bit of a journey.

Early on, growers in Georgia and Ohio called it Cush with a C so people wouldn't mix it up with Kush strains. By the nineties, it'd made its way to Southern California, where Snoop Dogg got hold of it and renamed it Green Crack.

That name stuck, though some still prefer Cush, Green Crush, Mango Crack, or Green Cush. For years, Green Crack was mainly passed around as clone-only cuts through online circles and direct swaps, with people like Texas Kid helping spread it about.

These days, breeders offer stabilised versions, so collectors can get hold of it more easily.

What It smells and tastes like

Green Crack hits with a bold, citrus-heavy smell that's hard to miss. There’s sharp, tangy tropical fruit, mango especially, mixed with earthy skunk and fresh pine.

There's sweetness in there, but also a pungent, herbal kick, and some batches throw in a bit of spice or floral notes. The terpenes do the heavy lifting: myrcene brings that earthy, musky skunk base, caryophyllene adds a spicy, woody layer like garam masala, limonene delivers the zesty citrus punch, and pinene gives it that clean pine freshness.

Humulene chips in with subtle hop-like hints, nerolidol adds floral and woody depth, and linalool can reach up to 7.0 mg/g.

When it comes to taste, Green Crack's zesty and smooth, with big citrus flavours, lemon and mango lead the way, balanced by earthy and slightly bitter notes.

Some versions lean sweet and candy-like, whilst others go peppery with faint diesel undertones. The finish often leaves a skunky tail with a tingle in the nose.

Cannabinoid levels and variants

Green Crack usually sits between 15 and 25 percent THC, with some batches around 17 percent and others pushing 25. CBD stays low, mostly 0.2 to 1 percent, so this isn't a high-CBD strain in its standard form.

Lab tests sometimes show about 1 percent CBG and 1 percent CBN, and there's talk that Green Crack might contain THCV alongside THC, adding another layer to its cannabinoid makeup.

There's also a CBD-focused variant out there: CBD Green Crack mixes Green Crack with California Orange CBD, producing a 1:2 THC:CBD ratio with roughly 6 percent THC and 12 percent CBD.

Green Crack's mostly sativa-dominant, around 65 percent sativa to 35 percent indica, but some versions lean more indica. Breeders have also spun off variants like Orange Crack and Dream Crack, which shift the terpene mix or tweak the cannabinoid ratios.

Awards and popularity

Green Crack's picked up some recognition over the years. It took third place for Best Sativa at the 2015 Denver High Times Cannabis Cup and won first place in the Peoples Cup category at the Santa Cruz Cup 2014.

Those wins show how much sativa fans rate it. Green Crack's one of the most in-demand strains around.

The strain's character got a big boost after Snoop Dogg's shout-out, and now it's widely available across North American dispensaries and through international seed banks offering feminised varieties.
