Super Skunk Strains

Super Skunk is an indica-leaning hybrid that Sensi Seeds brought out in 1990 by crossing Skunk #1 with an Afghani hash plant.

It's known for a seriously punchy smell and thick, sticky buds. THC sits around 16–20%, sometimes nudging 24%, while CBD hovers between 0.2% and 2.4%.

Where super skunk comes from

Sensi Seeds wanted to push Skunk #1 further, so they brought Afghani hash-plant genes back into the mix. They tried loads of different Afghani plants, male and female, paired with Skunk #1 until they landed on a combo that delivered more punch, better smell, and heavier buds.

The result was what they called a "super" version of the original, and it grabbed the mostly-indica Cannabis Cup the year it launched.

Since then it's been a regular fixture in Amsterdam coffee shops and seed banks around the world.

You'll find Super Skunk as regular, feminised, or autoflower seeds. Feminised versions skip the hassle of sorting males from females, and autoflowers wrap up their cycle faster without needing strict light schedules.

What it smells and tastes like

The name says it all, Super Skunk absolutely reeks. That classic skunky funk is front and centre, backed by deep earthy notes and a sweet edge that some people reckon smells like old cheese or damp woodland fungus. With whiffs of honey, citrus, and pine threading through.

Some batches lean into a sharp cheddar vibe with a sweet stink, while others go more forest-floor with hints of white-cheddar popcorn. The flavour's a bit of a surprise, though, it's sweeter and fruitier than you'd guess from the smell.

There’s citrus and lemon up front, then earthy, spicy, herbal layers underneath, finished with a cool menthol-pine kick.

The Afghani side brings those warm, spicy base notes, and the Skunk #1 keeps that trademark funk rolling. The smell hangs around long after, so it's not one that’s forgotten in a hurry.

The chemistry behind the smell

Myrcene and caryophyllene run the show in Super Skunk's terpene lineup. Myrcene gives those musky, earthy undertones that pair perfectly with the skunky base, while caryophyllene adds a peppery, spicy kick.

Limonene brings a citrus brightness that lifts the whole character, and you'll also find humulene, pinene, linalool, ocimene, and terpinolene weaving through different batches.

Some plants throw in beta-caryophyllene and valencene too, which just adds more layers to the aroma.

THC usually lands between 16% and 20%, though you'll see samples hit 19–24% now and then. CBD sits lower, mostly around 0.2% to 2.4%, averaging about 1%. It's that blend of terpenes and cannabinoids that makes Super Skunk so distinctive and keeps collectors coming back.

What the seeds and plants look like

Super Skunk seeds come in regular, feminised, and autoflower formats. Regular seeds keep the original genetics intact, feminised ones cut out the males, and autoflowers finish quicker.

The plants themselves show classic indica traits, Buds are a striking bright green with a spiky look, big pointy calyxes, and brown hairs all coated in a thick layer of white crystals.

Super Skunk can stretch out quite a bit, sometimes reaching the size of a small tree if the summer's kind. It shrugs off most pests and moulds pretty well too.
